He was previously its treasurer and chair of its Budget & Finance Committee. He is a past chair of the JFNA’s Domestic Affairs Pillar, and a past president of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. He held many positions at the Washington Federation including Annual Campaign co-chair; president at-large; vice president of Finance; vice president of Multiple Appeals; assistant secretary; Major Gifts Division chair; United Jewish Endowment Fund trustee; Jerome J. Dick Young Leadership Award recipient; Federation Executive Committee and Investment and Development Committees chair. Mr. Gelman has served on the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and has chaired the Council's Ad Hoc Committee on Governance, Investment Committee and Development Committee. He serves on the boards of several organizations, including the United Jewish Endowment Fund, the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Washington, and the Masorti Foundation in Israel, and has served as a regent of the University System of Maryland. Mr. Gelman was the founding partner of Gelman, Rosenberg and Freedman, located in Bethesda, Md., and is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
