Joseph L. Lanier, Jr. (age 76) has been a director of the Company since 1980. His term expires in 2010. He is also a director of Flowers Foods and Alliance One International, Inc. Principal occupation: Retired textile executive. (Chairman of the Board of Dan River Incorporated, Danville, Virginia, a textile manufacturer, November 1989-August 2006; Chief Executive Officer of Dan River Incorporated November 1989-February 2005). Mr. Lanier attended Culver Military Academy in 1950 and received a B.S. Degree from Washington and Lee University in 1954. He continued his education at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1955. Mr. Lanier is the husband of Ann Morgan Lanier, and they are the parents of two children, Joseph Lamar Lanier, III and Ann Lanier Jackson. Joe Lanier, Jr. is a veteran of the United States Army, having served as Company Commander and Battalion Adjutant, 1955-1957. Joseph L. Lanier, Jr. was the fourth generation and the sixth member of his family to head West Point Pepperell Corporation. He is currently chairman and CEO of Dan River, Inc. Mr. Lanier serves on the Board of Directors of Flowers Foods, Dimon, Inc. and the Torchmark Corporation.
