Experience: For three decades, Laurence D. Laufer has specialized in campaign finance law with wide and various experience as a regulator, advocate, and counselor. His clients include candidates for public office, elected officials, individuals and corporations engaged in political activities and/or governmental relations, trade associations, political action committees, governmental entities, political parties, and labor unions. Mr. Laufer represents clients in lobbying and government ethics matters, investigations and proceedings. From 1988 to 2000, Mr. Laufer served as Counsel to the Executive Director and then as General Counsel at the New York City Campaign Finance Board. Thereafter, he founded and led a consulting firm that provided compliance and campaign management services. Since 2003 he has been an attorney in private practice. Mr. Laufer served as general counsel to NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio's and NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer's 2013 campaign and transition committees. Mr. Laufer has represented more than 140 campaigns for local New York City public office, recipients of over $37 million in public matching funds. As trial counsel in an administrative enforcement proceeding under NYC lobbying law, he won an unprecedented 85 percent reduction in civil penalties. A 2012 Crain's New York Business profile described Mr. Laufer “as a fierce and at times combative advocate ... who is widely viewed as one of [New York] city's top campaign finance compliance attorneys.”
