Ben Platt struck a chord with millions of people who struggle with mental-health issues when he starred in the hit Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen” — a fictional story about teen suicide that’s sparked a conversation making many feel “understood and cared for,” and giving others a “survivor toolbox of how to get through this situation.” The next year, the Los Angeles native became the youngest solo recipient of the Tony Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical,” and the show has since been adapted into a 2021 film starring Platt. Along the way, the actor, singer and songwriter received a Golden Globe nod for his 2019 turn in the Netflix comedy-drama series “The Politician”; he’s also heading out on tour in September 2022 to promote his second studio album “Reverie.”
