Howard I. Hoffen has been a director of Union Drilling since December 1997. Mr. Hoffen is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Metalmark Capital, an investment center of Citi Alternative Investments that is focused on private equity. Mr. Hoffen was a founding member of Metalmark Capital LLC in 2004 and served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from that time until Metalmark became part of Citigroup in 2008. Prior thereto, Mr. Hoffen served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley Capital Partners from 2001 to 2004, after having performed various roles in the private equity group since he joined Morgan Stanley in 1985. Mr. Hoffen also serves as a director of EnerSys and several private companies. Mr. Hoffen has a B.S. from Columbia University and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. Mr. Hoffen is a director of Aqua, BreitBurn Energy Company, EnerSys, Homesite Group, Jones Energy, Maxum Petroleum, Melissa & Doug, MeriCap, Monarch Midstream, National Healing, Northeast Natural Energy, Ocwen Structured Investments, Tegrant, Union Drilling, and US Infrastructure. Mr. Hoffen has also served as a director of Allegiance Telecom, Amerin, Burlington Industries, Cantera Resources, Catalytica, Catalytica Energy Systems, Coltec, Concert Capital, CP Power, Direct Response, Highlands Gas Corporation, Interstate Natural Gas, Mountain Gas Resources, Noos, Randalls, Somerset Energy, Triana Energy/Columbia Natural Resources and Vanguard Health Systems. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr. Hoffen was appointed a Young Global Leader at the 2004 Annual Summit in association with the World Economic Forum.
