Gus Puryear has been a Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Asurion, LLC since November 2014 and also its General Counsel since April 2010. Mr. Puryear served as Senior Vice President at Asurion, LLC from April 2010 to November 2014. Gus A. Puryear, IV served as an Executive Vice President and as the General Counsel and Secretary of Corrections Corporation of America from January 2001 to March 31, 2010. Prior to joining Corrections Corporation of America, Mr. Puryear served as legislative Director and counsel for U.S. Senator Bill Frist, where he worked on legislation and other policy matters. During that time, he also served as a debate advisor to Vice President Richard B. Cheney. In addition, Mr. Puryear worked as counsel on the special investigation of campaign finance abuses during the 1996 elections conducted by the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, which was chaired by U.S. Senator Fred Thompson. Prior to his career on Capitol Hill, Mr. Puryear practiced law with Farris, Warfield & Kanaday, PLC in Nashville in the commercial litigation section. Mr. Puryear was also a law clerk for the Honorable Rhesa Hawkins Barksdale, U.S. Circuit Judge for the Fifth Circuit in Jackson, Mississippi. He serves as Director of Truxton Trust Company and its holding company, NBT Holdings Inc. Mr. Puryear graduated from Emory University with a major in Political Science in 1990 and received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1993.
