Notes JUNE 5, 2015 The Santa Fe Institute’s Board of Trustees has welcomed three new members. Fred Dotzler of De Novo Ventures, Jacques Dubois of Swiss Re America Holding Corp. (retired), and Josh Wolfe of Lux Capital were elected as members during the Board’s biannual meeting on May 3, 2015. Fred Dotzler is a managing director and co-founder of De Novo Ventures, a firm that invests in medical devices and biotechnology. Previously he was a managing general partner of Medicus Venture Partners, a general partner with Crosspoint Venture Partners, and an executive in finance, marketing, sales, manufacturing, and business development for a variety of medical, technology, and biotech companies. Mr. Dotzler earned an MBA from the University of Chicago, a masters equivalent in economics from the University of Louvain, Belgium, and a B.S. in engineering from Iowa State University. He is a member of the advisory board of the Journal of Private Equity and a trustee of the Salk Institute. Jacques Dubois retired from Swiss Re Group in 2006. He had served the global re-insurance provider as a member of the Swiss Re Executive Board in Zurich, and as chairman and CEO of Swiss Re America Holding Corporation, among other roles. Previously Mr. Dubois was a partner at Insurance Investment Associates and co-founder and president of Life Re Corporation. Since retiring, Mr. Dubois has been a consultant to financial institutions on matters related to acquisitions, insurance coverage litigation, collateralized debt obligations, and credit default swaps. He is a board member for several charitable organizations and a founding investor and board member of Praedicat, Inc., a liability catastrophe analytics firm. He holds an A.B. in mathematics from the College of the Holy Cross and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
